Pay to Play is the tell-all memoir of Justice Restoration Foundation President Stephen L. Keller—a brash young entrepreneur who set out to bring dignity to the terminally ill and ended up on the receiving end of a system where big business, politics, and profit converge in ways rigged for power.
The Dark Edge of the American Dream
At 27, Keller founded Kelco, a financial firm that pioneered a new way for terminally ill patients to access their life insurance benefits. He went on to co-found the industry's first trade association and, in 1998, launched the modern life settlement industry—introducing the first securitized bundles of life insurance policies on the NYSE and capturing a majority share of what is today a roughly $30 billion annual market. Over his career, he raised billions on Wall Street.
